June 4-8: Ilgın Beach
We drove around a few places but didn’t quite like the beaches or locations- too rocky, no atmosphere, etc. Finally a local in Mazı told us about the third beach near the end of their village called Ilgın and there we found a home for what ended up being 4 days- we just kept staying!
There were a few other nice people staying, with the main ones being a crazy lady from Istanbul who reminded me of my grandma (quirky!) but loved talking to everyone and made friends with the locals (the fact that most of her friends may have been single older men probably didn’t escape her, but that wasn’t what she was interested in- she was very independent, and around 60). She was staying in a tent on the beach. There was also a quiet man in a converted van who made really cool men’s necklaces.
Through the tent lady, we got invited to breakfast with a local family, which I couldn’t believe because we were just people passing through and they opened their home to us! So lovely 🥰
On the beach there was a freshwater spring at the end that we helped Tent lady muck out a bit, and then later we found baby sea turtles there! (See pics). At one point Tent lady found one on the beach and “gave” it to us, but we immediately went to release it at the freshwater spring with its friends (video on Facebook- videos don’t seem to like to load on this site! Friend request me on Facebook if you don’t already have me 😉)
We left Monday morning after 4 days of chilling, swimming and walking- a great stay in Mazı/Ilgın!
